Day 1 - Tissamaharama
Tissa, or Tissamaharama, is a charming town in southern Sri Lanka known for its rich history and proximity to nature. Tissa is home to ancient ruins, including the impressive Tissa Dagoba.
The town is surrounded by stunning landscapes, including Tissa Wewa (Tissa Lake), a beautiful reservoir where you can enjoy leisurely walks, picnics, and birdwatching. The lake is especially picturesque at sunset. Tissa serves as a convenient base for visiting Yala National Park, one of Sri Lanka’s premier wildlife destinations. Here, you can embark on thrilling safaris to spot leopards, elephants, and a variety of other wildlife. The ideal months are from December to March when the weather is pleasant. Renting a bicycle or hiring a tuk-tuk can be a fun way to explore the town and its surroundings.
