Day 1 - Negombo

Day 2 - Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka. It was a major center of Buddhism and played a crucial role in the cultural and religious development of Sri Lanka. Anuradhapura was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing its cultural and historical importance.

The Sri Maha Bodhi is a sacred tree which believed to be a sapling from the original Bodhi tree in India under which Buddha attained enlightenment. It’s one of the oldest living trees in the world. Anuradhapura is dotted with ancient stupas, temples, and monasteries. Its historical importance continues to attract visitors today. This ancient city contains numerous ruins, including monastic complexes, ancient irrigation systems, and stone inscriptions to see. ‘Riti gala’ is a nearby mountain with ancient ruins that served as a monastic complex, offering beautiful views and a serene atmosphere. Anuradhapura remains a major pilgrimage site for Buddhists, especially during the full moon Poya days when devotees gather to pay homage. The surrounding area features lush greenery and wildlife, making it an excellent spot for ecotourism and nature walks.

Day 3 - Sigiriya

Sigiriya, also known as Lion Rock. It is a massive granite rock. In 1982, Sigiriya was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing its cultural and historical significance. The walls of Sigiriya are adorned with vibrant frescoes depicting celestial maidens.

The entrance to the fortress features the remains of a giant lion's head. Visitors climb through the lion's paws to access the summit, where the king’s palace once stood. It includes beautifully designed water gardens, terraced gardens, and symmetrical layouts, reflecting the advanced landscaping techniques of the time. From the top of Sigiriya, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, including lush forests and distant mountains. Sigiriya is believed to have been used as a royal residence and later as a Buddhist monastery. The area surrounding Sigiriya is rich in biodiversity, with opportunities for birdwatching and spotting wildlife, including monkeys and various species of birds. The hike to the summit involves about 1,200 steps, which can be challenging.

Day 4 - Polonnaruwa

Polonnaruwa, the ancient capital of Sri Lanka, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that offers a fascinating glimpse into the island's rich history. It is home to remarkable ruins, including temples, stupas, and palaces that showcase intricate stone carvings and the advanced engineering of the time.

The cooler months from December to March are ideal for exploring. You must try traditional Sri Lankan dishes at local eateries, particularly rice and curry. Day 5 - Pasikuda

Day 6 - Kandy

Kandy is a major city in central Sri Lanka, known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes. The temple of the tooth is one of Kandy's most famous attractions. It is a significant pilgrimage site for Buddhists and is celebrated during the annual Esala Perahera festival in August.

Day 7 - Nuwara Eliya

Day 8 - Ella

The views from places like Ella Rock and Little Adam's Peak are particularly stunning. Nine Arches Bridge is an iconic railway bridge. It is renowned for its impressive architecture and it's a popular spot for photography especially when trains pass over it. Ella is surrounded by beautiful tea estates where visitors can take guided tours to learn about tea production and sample various blends. Diyaluma waterfall is located a short drive from Ella, this is one of Sri Lanka’s tallest waterfalls. Visitors can hike to the top for stunning views and natural pools. Day 9 - Yala

Yala is one of Sri Lanka's most famous national parks. Yala National Park is famous for its large population of leopards, making it one of the best places in the world to spot these elusive big cats. The park is also home to elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and numerous bird species.

You can feel the real wildlife experience while exploring through the jungle. Yala is a birdwatcher's paradise, with over 200 species recorded, including many endemic species. Day 10 - Udawalawa

Udawalawa is a popular destination in Sri Lanka, known for its stunning national park and rich wildlife. The main attraction is Udawalawa National Park, which is famous for its large population of Asian elephants. Day 11 - Deniyaya

Day 13 - Galle
